Bodybuilders want to develop a competitive physique to secure a dominant place in the field. That’s fair. The problem arises from wanting to achieve it in a short time, probably using shortcuts. Many of them have opted to use substances to achieve their desired shape. Moreover, the current trend suggests that going natural makes one fall behind amidst the majority choosing substances for muscle enhancement.
In the Olympia TV YouTube channel, bodybuilding veteran Chris Cormier, former IFBB professional, strongly advised against injectable drugs for muscle build, especially into the back, as it does more harm than good.

Revealing the tormenting side of shooting substances into the back to make it more muscular and heroic, the former bodybuilding champion said, “A lot of that can make that muscle dissipate, and it just won’t be there.” As horrific as it sounds, one’s attempt to enhance their muscles could end up doing irreparable damage.
Furthermore, Cormier enlightened the athletes on why “shortcuts” don’t take them closer to their ultimate goal. By defining shortcuts as a “slippery slope,” he illustrated the certainty of eventual collapse in one’s bodybuilding journey.”It’s not going to help you in the long-run because you’re going to shorten your career by doing so,” he explained.
A few aspects of bodybuilders’ hustle for muscle, include years of intense training and stringent diet regimes. What goes unsaid, is dealing with negativity, criticism, and cut-throat competition. That said, an opportunity to attain the desired goal, using a shortcut, is a thought that may cross an athlete’s mind. However, the catch is that, shortcuts come with a risk element, as Cormier reiterated. Considering the risks involved, there are restrictions on substance use imposed by the apex body of the sport.
IFBB adopted the WADA code
While it is common to hear about steroids’ usage in the bodybuilding circuit, despite its effects, it’s natural to question whether their usage is even regulated. International Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) is the regulatory body governing bodybuilding competitions. In 2004, IFBB adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code that provides a list of banned substances.
