3x Mr. Olympia Classic Physique winner Chris Bumstead spoke about permanent body tattoos in a short video. There, he quickly addressed some conditions under which a bodybuilder could get a tattoo if they really wanted to.

Chris Bumstead’s advice on getting tattoos for newbie bodybuilders

The first thing that Bumstead clarified was that tattoos didn’t cause a hindrance for him. The iconic bodybuilder has a detailed forearm tattoo that is extremely visible. He mentioned that because his tattoo is in a strategic place; it doesn’t hinder his build. However, if a person has tattoos all over their arms, chest, front, and back, it would take away the definition.

 

The star bodybuilder warned new-age bodybuilders not to get tattoos all over their bodies. Tattoos cover up your skin and naturally hide muscle definition. And when that is absent from the body, Bumstead adds, “then absolutely they can definitely detriment your bodybuilding career”.

Tattoo take: Arnold Schwarzenegger vs Chris Bumstead

While reigning Mr. Classic Physique offered conditions for tattoos, advising on where to get one, legendary bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger felt different. The ‘Austrian Oak’ was never a fan of tattoos to begin with. The bodybuilder-turned-actor, however, prefers the idea of temporary tattoos. According to him, one could get rid of them at any given time, which is suitable for a career in bodybuilding.

Whether its permanent tattoos or the lack thereof, the sport is no joke. Bodybuilders need to work hard and sacrifice a lot in order to get to respectable positions.
