Home/Bodybuilding

In an interview, legend Ronnie Coleman revealed his intense training regime while also disclosing why he chose to invest in a home gym. Unsurprisingly, the bodybuilding legend found it hard to maintain his fitness levels when the gyms were closed during the pandemic. But Coleman always had a solution for it from the start.

In the world of bodybuilding, Ronnie Coleman doesn’t need an introduction. He won eight consecutive Mr. Olympia titles from the years 1998 to 2005. His reign was over in the year 2006 when his rival, Jay Cutler, took his place, and soon after Coleman retired.

The personal sanctuary of Ronnie Coleman

For the legend Ronnie Coleman, the gym is his everything. Keeping physically fit is, unsurprisingly, his priority. Thus, in an interview appearance earlier this year in August, Coleman disclosed how he invested more in his home gym than his house.

“The house was about $125,000 and the gym was $200,000,” Coleman said. He further continued, “This is my sanctuary for when I was winning all my Olympias when I couldn’t go to Metroflex [gym] because people would bother me so much.” Being a legend in bodybuilding, it is really hard for him to train in public gyms. With a home gym, it was easy for him to train with zero distractions or disturbances.

Despite having a stellar career, he has been through several major surgeries after retirement. However, that hasn’t stopped Coleman from going to the gym daily. In his interview, he revealed another surprising reason for owning a home gym. Coleman said, “But the main reason I wanted my own gym – to play my own music!”

Metroflex was owned by Brian Dobson. He took an interest in Coleman because of his huge figure. Dobson offered him a lifetime membership in the gym in exchange for him participating in a competition. In the 1990 Mr. Texas bodybuilding competition, Coleman placed first, and the rest as they say is history.

Coleman was hungry for him. Not only one, but he won eight Mr. Olympias, which was the same as legend Lee Haney, who also has a record of eight Mr. Olympias. In the 2006 Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler broke his winning streak, and Coleman also retired after that.
