Mike O’Hearn disclosed that consistently doing something over the years can make your body get used to it. He explained that knowing when to take a break is also crucial for growth. He gave instances of this by explaining that professional bodybuilders also take off seasons for their recovery and growth. You don’t need to stay consistent on a diet or on a workout regimen for the rest of your life to experience growth. It is the off period you take which is essential for growth.
He continued by explaining that there is no point in giving your best for a few years and then not being able to lift for the rest of your life. Instead, what is a better alternative is to go slowly and gradually to attain your goals. This way, O’Hearn believes, you’ll be able to enjoy working out in your late 50s as well. “I would rather you hit those PRs in the later years…that way you can be that 20-year-old again,” said O’Hearn
O’Hearn explained throughout the video that consistently doing everything in the right order and with knowledge is different from just doing the same thing over and over again for years. Along the same lines, the bodybuilder once discussed the importance of recovery and diet above the training itself.
Mike O’Hearn provides another thoughtful tip
Anybody who has been working out for a few years now is probably already aware of the importance of recovery in their fitness regimen. O’Hearn touched on the same topic a while ago in his video, where he explained that recovery and diet are far more crucial for growth rather than workouts.

“Treat the body kindly and never break it down and destroy it to the point where there’s no recovery. That’s not where you wanna go to,” said O’Hearn. He continued by explaining the importance of a good diet by saying, “Food is the most important thing and it’s not running away from food, it’s about going to the food. That’s your medication.”
