Mr. Olympia 2022 is going on in full swing and too much is at stake for the bodybuilders. The title isn’t the only thing the winner takes home from the event. The huge chunk of prize money is also what drives the participants to give their best. However, the prize money isn’t the same for all the categories.

One would be shocked to know that there is a whopping six-figure difference between the reward of two of the most popular categories of the bodybuilding contest—men’s open and classic physique.
The insane difference in the prize money
For this year’s contest, the total prize money has been locked at $1,600,000. With the event being currently held in Las Vegas, the bodybuilders are giving their best to get their hands on the prize. This amount is further divided into eight parts. While a specific amount is allotted to the eight different categories, there is a clear disparity in prize money. The 2022 Mr. Olympia Classic Physique champions would be taking home $61,000, whereas the winners of the men’s open division would earn a whopping $750,000.
Though the two divisions are equally popular, however, one is considered tougher than the other. In 2021, Men’s open winner Big Ramy won $400,000, whereas Chris Bumstead took home merely $50,000.
It is to be noted that the Classic Physique category wasn’t there since the time the contest was formulated. It was only in 2016 that this category was created after splitting it from the men’s open division. Naturally, since it isn’t the main event, there is a difference in the prize money allocated to the event.
