Strength athlete and fitness influencer Larry Wheels has done it all, from powerlifting to bodybuilding to arm wrestling. While building strength has been his primary focus for the past few years, Wheels recently announced his plans to return to competitive bodybuilding. The fitness influencer won his first and only bodybuilding show in 2018 but now wants to compete in Classic Physique.
Despite shifting his focus to bodybuilding, earlier the powerlifter relived a moment from his past by posting his bench press personal record. The amateur arm wrestler uploaded the video of his insane bench press attempt on Instagram for his 4.3 million followers. The fitness influencer’s fans were both amazed and astonished at the former powerlifter’s display of strength.

In his bench press personal record (PR) video, Larry Wheels begins by lying down on the beach and positioning himself under the bar. To support his wrist and elbow joints, the powerlifter has wrist and elbow wraps on. The video also clearly shows the barbell, loaded with six, 20.4 kg (44.9 lbs) weight plates on each side.
After the spotter positions himself to bail out the powerlifter if something goes wrong, Wheels lifts up the loaded barbell and begins his PR attempt. The aspiring professional bodybuilder makes the first two reps of the 585 lbs bench press look easy. While he has to put in a bit more effort to finish two more reps, Wheels successfully competes his PR attempt without any intervention from the spotter during the lift.
The fitness influencer also leaves no room for questions as he goes through the full range of motion for each rep. He also doesn’t bounce the bar off his chest and locks out his elbows at the top of each rep. To get a better idea of the powerlifter’s insane strength one can take a look at eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman‘s benchpress.

Widely regarded by many as the strongest bodybuilder of all time, Coleman once squatted 800 lbs. While Coleman never did a benchpress PR, he once benched a pair of 200 lbs (400 lbs total) dumbbells for 12 reps without a spotter. Bodybuilding fans were in awe of Larry Weels’s strength and couldn’t help but comment on the video.
Bodybuilding fans could hardly believe what they witnessed
The powerlifter’s fans were beyond impressed with his heaviest bench press set ever. Some fans couldn’t comprehend how the fitness influencer could lift so heavy, while some even cracked jokes.
“265kg (585 lbs) 4 times?”
“PR LARRY BACK?!?!?”
“Larry casually benching someone’s deadlift max for 4 lol.”
