Lou Ferrigno is a retired IFBB professional bodybuilder. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Ferrigno was diagnosed with 80-85% hearing loss, when he was just three years old. He was still able to overcome the issues in his life and had a successful bodybuilding and acting career. Ferrigno has also won IFBB Mr. Universe two consecutive times.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno share the same stage

As per Lou Ferrigno, it was one of the most honorable moments of his life. One doesn’t gets the golden chance to compete with the one and only, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is also known as, “The Austrian Oak.”

“I wasn’t at my best but I was very honored to be on the same stage with him (Arnold) because very few people have that same chance to do what I did,” Ferrigno said. He continued, “I was on the same stage, in the same league with them.” He was competing against the unbeatable Austrian Oak, who was on his way to his 6th Mr. Olympia. Ferrigno looked proud of himself as he was in the big leagues as the GOAT himself, Schwarzenegger.

“And I was very excited because it was a dream of mine coming true and I was sharing myself onstage with the best,” Ferrigno added. He was not at his best during the 1975 Mr. Olympia, but he was with the best and that was like a dream come true for him. Standing in between the veterans of a league is really a big deal, and Ferrigno was fully into the moment.

Ferrigno tried his best at the Olympia, but it wasn’t enough for him to beat Schwarzenegger. He was placed 3rd, while Schwarzenegger grabbed the title of Mr. Olympia in 1975. Ferrigno hasn’t competed since then.

Rivalry or the start of a new friendship?

Ferrigno placed 2nd and 3rd in the 1974 and 1975 Mr. Olympia, respectively. Schwarzenegger was the guy who he wasn’t able to beat. They were even considered once to be good rivals on the stage, since Schwarzenegger never let Ferrigno taste the glory of Mr. Olympia.

It’s not like Mr. Olympia was the reason for their having a beef with each other. They have been long-time workout partners.
