Cutler beat legends like Ronnie Coleman, Phil Heath, and Dexter Jackson. However, the former champion needed a to do some insane things to beat some of the best bodybuilders of all time.

Jay Cutler became a bodybuilding icon, when he finally beat the eight-time Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman, in 2006. For four years, Cutler gained size and muscle, before he could match Coleman. So what exactly did Cutler do to beat a ‘mass monster’ like Coleman?

Jay Cutler talks about his insane diet

Jay Cutler recently appeared on Mike Sartain’s YouTube podcast. During the podcast, Jay revealed how much he ate during his bodybuilding days. Cutler said: ‘‘I’m not going to lie, there was a lot of diets I ate 140 egg whites a day. So I was cracking eggs non-stop.” Cutler revealed: ”I was eating thirty egg whites a meal then.”

The number seems even more insane when you consider the egg whites were just part of a full meal. Now the question arises; why would anyone need to consume 30 egg whites with each meal? The answer- Jay needed around 500 grams of protein a day.

According to Cutler, each egg white has only around three grams of protein. This isn’t surprising because the bulk of the nutrients in an is egg inside the yolk. However, consuming too many egg yolks might be harmful as the yolk contains a lot of cholesterol. Hence, he resorted to having so many egg whites every day.

However, even 140 eggs whites a day wasn’t enough to meet Jay’s protein needs. Cutler also ate both chicken and steak every day. ”I was eating upwards of four pounds of meat a day,” Cutler stated. It was this super high-protein diet that enabled Cutler to gain a massive amount of muscle.

Cutler is still in phenomenal shape

The four-time Mr. Olympia, stopped competing after 2013. However, the former champion still trains regularly and is in phenomenal shape. In fact, his physique might put a lot of amateur bodybuilders to ponder about their regime. In the same interview, Cutler further revealed, ”The food is everything. Even to this day, I’ve retired now.” This may be the reason Cutler continues to be jacked at 49.
