Bodybuilding has helped numerous people strengthen themselves, not only physically but mentally as well. Even during the transformation, some strive to just change themselves, while some set bigger goals. The latter is the case of the 39-year-old Asian bodybuilder from Hong Kong, Marvin Fok.

With a strong will, the bodybuilder took on his bodybuilding journey to bring about a change in the bodybuilding world. Fok aims to change the hackneyed idea of bodybuilding and the stigma attached to Asian bodybuilders.

Marvin Fok is giving hope to Asian bodybuilders

Entering the bodybuilding competitions, Marvin wants to break the stereotype that Asian bodybuilders are no match for European or African bodybuilders. Predominantly, people of European or African descent with their big build have dominated the bodybuilding industry. The most famous names in history belong to these regions. Bodybuilding fever hasn’t been as high in Asia as it has been in other parts of the world. Until very recently.

“It’s just a social norm to me,” said Fok, who aims to change the obvious and cement his name in the history of the sport. “If you never try, you never know. I’m 39, so I’m giving hope to young people in Hong Kong and Chinese people, saying we can do it if we invest enough time, train smart and stay injury-free.”

He is a natural bodybuilder and believes that he will accomplish his goal one day. Fok firmly believes that through correct training methods and by staying injury-free, he will get there one day.

Marvin Fok turned his life around in 2019 after overcoming self-loathing and stepping a foot out of his haven and stepping into the bodybuilding world. The same year, he became the first Asian to win the Muscle Mayhem in the United States. To win the overall title, he surpassed the competitors of not only his division but of other weight classes, too.

Fok believes that an individual can achieve whatever they put their mind to. The key is to not get swayed by the words of others and give up halfway. “We try to tease people who are willing to try something different, but I think we can excel if we just do whatever we believe we can do. You can train your mind. It’s like a muscle. It’s the same concept,” he added. He further urged that there is no harm in trying something new. People should get out of their comfort zones to test their limits. While taking up something new, one has nothing to lose but only experience to gain. He said, “You have nothing to lose.
