Building muscle is a fad that most people aspire to. While building muscle has several benefits for health and well-being, it is not as easy as it sounds. Renowned physician and media contributor, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, in a 2020 interview, threw light on why working out for women is important. She also busted some common myths surrounding muscle development in women.

In connection with the discussion on muscle and well-being, the joy of maintaining fitness and a healthy body, as highlighted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, former bodybuilding champion, in a 1977 interview, comes to mind. Decades apart, Dr. Lyon and Austrian Oak advocated similar ideas that reiterate its authenticity.

Eating protein and building muscle are non-negotiable

Working out, especially lifting weights, comes to mind at the very thought of bodybuilding. It has several benefits – building muscle, burning body fat, strengthening bones and joints, and reducing the risks of injuries. “It takes a lot of effort to put on muscle,” the doctor stated. She remarked people assume that by lifting weights as heavy as 15 pounds, “I’m definitely gonna get big biceps.” But, in reality, it doesn’t guarantee the same.

“Women absolutely have to work because as they age, the hormonal decline works against them.” Dr. Lyon stated. Schwarzenegger gave muscle-building a perspective slightly different from Dr. Lyon’s. “The mind is right in the muscle,” he said. According to the Terminator actor, tapping the potential of mind-power is the only way to build muscle. Besides lifting weights, he suggested bodybuilders think about muscle growing and becoming stronger to make it a reality.

Furthermore, he added, “It’s so good to be in shape.” Besides, understanding the connection between mind and muscle ensures “mind and body works perfectly together.” Moreover, he clarified that women do not get muscles like men as they are hormonally different. But they do become fit and firm.
