Even before he was a Hollywood superstar, or the governor of California, or the myriad of other caps he donned in his lifetime, Arnold Schwarzenegger was first and foremost a bodybuilder. Decades have passed since his heydays of bodybuilding, but the passion still flickers in his eyes. And with that passion and experience comes a wide array of knowledge about the well-being of one’s body. Generous and kind as he is, Schwarzenegger put his advice to use in helping a man come out of a deadly disease last year.
Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s newsletter, ‘Arnold’s Pump Club’, where he discusses the “positive corner of wellness,” has helped many people overcome their health problems. Its impact runs so deep that it also recently helped someone win a race against cancer. Here’s the story of Matt Wolf.

In September 2022, Matt Wolf was already struggling with the following – 6 months out of a herniated disc, chronic spinal injury, spinal disability called Spondylolisthesis, and a broken vertebra. His decision to skip surgery soon proved costly when in October, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. And by November, his 4-month Chemotherapy had started. Things spiraled out of Wolf’s hands very rapidly.

So while Wolf had four months to spare and receive treatment until he got better, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He joined Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daily newsletter and also enrolled himself in Dojang (a Korean martial arts form). Both turned out to be life-changing experiences for him. But more so, the former.

Wolf said in the recent edition of the newsletter, “During all of this I joined the daily newsletter and it, combined with Arnold’s encouraging words and my time in the Dojang and gym, served to help me through what has become my most challenging life experience to date.” Matt Wolf clocked around 32 hours doing the Dojang, and “pumped 588,963 pounds” during that time. Serving as a terrific example for the whole world, Wolf’s medical team even gave him a word of remission.
Schwarzenegger’s acts of kindness are ample and unbound
This wasn’t the first time the 7X Mr. Olympia helped someone in need. During the shooting of ‘Total Recall’ in 1990, Schwarzenegger helped his co-star Michael Ironside’s sister in her battle with cancer. Ironside never forgot that act of kindness. And neither will Wolf.

But while Schwarzenegger did help Wolf with his words of encouragement, via his newsletter, some credit must also be saved for Wolf himself. It was Wolf’s courage and determination that made him undertake such an arduous task and come out victorious on the other side. He fought a mental battle with himself and won.
