The 1970s belong to one man in bodybuilding – Arnold Schwarzenegger. Beating his opponents fair and square, he dominated the bodybuilding world for a long time. He won seven Mr. Olympia titles with a body chiseled to perfection. However, one bodybuilder named Lou Ferrigno motivated him to the top. If it weren’t for Arnold, he would have been a multiple Mr. Olympia title winner. Significantly, the duo trained together and appeared in the famous documentary, ‘Pumping Iron’.

These men ruled the bodybuilding stage for a long time. Coming to their body measurements, two colossal men strived hard for perfection. Hence, we go into the finer details of their physical attributes. Did Ferrigno come on top in any department?

Arnold Schwarzenegger vs Lou Ferrigno body battle

Pumping Iron featured some of the best clips from the 1970s bodybuilding era. It showcased Schwarzenegger at his peak while Ferrigno played an essential role in the documentary. Although Arnold won it seven times, Ferrigno was an able contender for the second position. He weighed 285-295lbs and stood at the height of 6’5″. As for Arnold, he weighed 225-235 lbs and stood at 6’3″. The Austrian Oak, though, had one of the best chests in the business.

Schwarzenegger had a chest of 57 inches toned to perfection, while Ferrigno had a mammoth chest of 59 inches. Even though Lou had a more significant size, Arnold’s chest attracted many eyeballs. It was a sight to behold.

Moving on towards arm size, Lou measured 22.5 inches while Arnold had 22 inches. Even today, Schwarzenegger gives bodybuilders a run for their money when they witness true greatness in those arms.

Likewise, thighs are a crucial part of a bodybuilder’s measurements. Schwarzenegger measured at 28.5 inches, and Lou came close to 29-inches in that department. They were true masters of their game and icons of the sport. On the other hand, Lou also acted in several movies and rocked the screens, just like Schwarzenegger. 

The Incredible Hulk

The Hulk is one Marvel character that fans can relate to as a bodybuilder. In 1977, Ferrigno co-starred with Bill Bixby in the hit TV show, the Incredible Hulk. Moreover, he appeared in other famous movies like Hercules and Sinbad. He attained success globally and became well known to all, just like Schwarzenegger. As for the Austrian Oak, his acting career needs no introduction.

Both bodybuilders were training partners and best friends. ‘The Pumping Iron’ documentary threw some limelight on the bodybuilders. Training regularly, Lou Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger are benchmarks for bodybuilders to attain. They were unique in their own amazing way.
