His first big accomplishment dates back to 1970, when he won his first Mr. Olympia title. As a bodybuilder, Arnold had mastered several workout routines. Moreover, he used a ‘suicide grip’ to do bench presses rather than a safer grip.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s obsession with ‘Suicide grip’
When on one hand, trainers denied the use of the suicide grip while doing the bench press. On the other hand, Arnold only used the suicide grip to bench press. As the name itself denotes that the result of a failed attempt at bench press in suicide grip can be fatal. The difference is all about the thumb grip in the normal grip and the suicide grip.
But Arnold had achieved his comfort level to commit to the exercise with that grip. When asked by a fan earlier this year about the use of a dangerous grip for his workout. Arnold said, “I could give you a whole page of reasons why I did it, but this newsletter is all about being honest.”
Furthermore, he added, “The reality is, there was no reason, and I mainly did it on the incline bench just because it felt good.” However, he might do it as he feels good. It is not safe for common people to try this grip while bench pressing. As it might be a dead move for them as one mistake can take their lives.
The workout routine of Arnold Schwarzenegger
Pro bodybuilder needs a high-intensity workout to reach their desired goal. Similarly, Arnold had a vigorous workout regimen. He used to work out six days a week and take a day off. Moreover, he trained two muscle groups in one day and made sure he trains them well. In addition, with strong workouts, a sufficient diet is also needed, which he took from plenty of food and a rich nutrient diet.
