Arnold Schwarzenegger faced a political drubbing
After promising the citizens an accountable government, Arnold had a smooth political sail for a few years. Things turned south in the final years of Schwarzenegger’s term as the Governor. In 2005, Arnold Schwarzenegger presented initiatives for the advancement of California during a special election.
Arnold blamed himself for the blow he faced and promised to make better decisions in the future. He called it “the year of reform,” but to his dismay, the voters rejected all the initiatives. Schwarzenegger pledged to devote himself to what the voters wanted for the betterment of the state.

On numerous occasions, Maria Shriver has expressed her thoughts on Schwarzenegger becoming the Governor. Maria was not happy with Schwarzenegger running for it and had previously experienced the stress that came along with the responsibility of handling a state.

Shriver was worried about what politics would do to her relationship with Schwarzenegger and their kids. Maria was worried that the life she had made for her husband and kids might get out of control.
But once Schwarzenegger won the elections, despite all the differences in opinions, his wife stood by his side. Arnold was elected in 2007, and his career as the Governor ended with his second term in 2011.
