Maik Wiedenbach was an Olympics swimmer who also participated in the FINA Swimming World Cup. However, after graduating from Fordham University, the German swimmer made a shift to bodybuilding. With a wealth of experience training in an elite circle as a swimmer, Wiedenbach became a certified personal trainer. He also gives training tips to his over 59K followers on Instagram. In one such video, he explained why steroids won’t turn a bodybuilder into Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The New York-based bodybuilding coach uploaded a video on the prevalence of steroid use among bodybuilders. In the video, Wiedenbach talked about why a bodybuilder must focus on various external factors when building a physique.

Why everyone using steroids won’t become Arnold Schwarzenegger
Maik Wiedenbach uploaded the video on December 21, 2022. He captioned the video, “Steroids are the answer?” In the video, the former Olympics swimmer explained his point through one example. “There are millions and millions of (steroid) users in the US right? A lot of them use more than Arnold ever used, but I’m not seeing millions of Arnolds,” said the bodybuilding and fitness coach.

He also said that steroids help a “good athlete” become “really good.” However, “they’re not going to make you from Homer Simpson into Arnold. My God!” said the personal trainer. He also explained what a bodybuilder needed to focus on besides steroids. According to Wiedenbach, factors like “work ethic, discipline, sleeping discipline (and) lifestyle,” have a more significant influence on an athlete than performance-enhancing drugs.

Using steroids won’t help athletes who don’t have the work ethic and discipline to be consistent in the gym and maintain a strict diet. While Arnold Schwarzenegger grew up in a poor household, his work ethic and discipline helped him win bodybuilding contests early in his career.

Many bodybuilding fans consider Arnold Schwarzenegger the greatest bodybuilder of all time. However, the Austrian Oak faced many hardships to keep his bodybuilding dream alive. An example of the former Mr. Olympia’s incredible work ethic would be when Schwarzenegger joined the Austrian army at 18 for his compulsory one-year service.

The former Mr. Universe once said that he kept weights plates and dumbbells inside the tank he drove and worked out every night. Despite training to become a tank driver and following the strict schedule of the army, Schwarzenegger found time to work on his physique.
