Now, another role has been bestowed upon the bodybuilder in his personal life for two years now. It is of being a grandfather.

Two years ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger became a grandfather when his eldest daughter Katherine gave birth to her first child. This was followed by a second child in 2022. In a recent interview, Katherine Schwarzenegger revealed what kind of a grandfather the Austrian Oak is.

Recently, Katherine Schwarzenegger appeared on So Mini Ways, a parenting series by Yahoo Life. Schwarzenegger-Pratt was on the show to promote her latest book titled Good Night, Sister. Following the theme of the show, Katherine Schwarzenegger not only shed light on the parenting dynamics between the actor-author couple, but she also revealed that of her parents. Furthermore, she talked about how they are enjoying their role of being grandparents.

Talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger, Katherine said, “My dad’s house is really fun because he has all these animals and he starts having [the girls] understand the chores and how to take care of animals and all these different things.” Gushing over her father, she added, “He’s very sweet and playful with them. So it’s been really amazing to watch both of my parents step into the role of grandparents.”

Though Schwarzenegger and Shriver have successfully stepped into the role of grandparents, it looks like they are not ready to be referred to by those common role names.

Further in the interview, Katherine Schwarzenegger revealed her parents do not like to be addressed by the typical ‘grandpa’ and ‘grandma’ or something synonymous with that. Instead, they have come up with a different nickname.

Katherine’s two daughters call Arnie, “Opa.” It might sound similar to the popular Korean term ‘Oppa’ but the meaning is completely different. In German, Opa means grandfather. Keeping his Austrian heritage in mind, Schwarzenegger insisted the kids call him that. As for Maria Shriver, she goes by the name of Mama G for her grandchildren. Shriver’s nickname was inspired by her brother who goes by the nickname Daddy G for his grandchildren.
