Former legendary bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger joined politics and became active in the 1990s. After winning several bodybuilding titles and becoming a universal action star, he received American citizenship in 1983. He gradually became more active in the early 90s and became an important part of the Republican Party.

After being involved with the Party for 13 years, he got elected as the governor of California in a recall election in 2003. Although Schwarzenegger faced several issues during his term because of his unpopular measures, he got a big hit back in 2008 when California went through a massive economic crisis under his governance.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s note to the legislative member
Arnold Schwarzenegger served as the governor of California for eight years. He was popular. But he didn’t get along well with his unpopular measures as a governor at the beginning of his governance. Moreover, he got re-elected in 2006 on the vast issue of environment conservation and reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions.
Nevertheless, in 2008, Arnold had a demanding situation on his hands when he had an economic crisis to handle. California was hit hard by the crisis. Arnold and other legislative members had to take care of it as soon as possible. Arnold once revealed in an interview about his situation in 2008. He said, “California was hit by an enormous economic decline and there was a world-wide recession that was hitting us in 2008. And everyone was caught by surprise by what effect it had.“
Arnold added, “All of a sudden, we had $20B less in revenues; therefore, we had to make big cuts in education and in various different areas that really hit the vulnerable citizens of California. When we did the budget, I basically sent him up before we negotiated a set of balls with a note.”

The times were troublesome. The 2008 recession hit everybody. As the governor of California, it was a tough challenge for Arnold to tackle. However, as an authoritative person, Arnold had enormous responsibilities on his shoulder. He knew the result would not be in his favor, and people might not like the budget.
Nevertheless, he had to make the decisions, and he did. In the note to the legislative leader, he wrote, “I hope you have that when we negotiate the budget because it’s what we both need. It’s what we all in this building need in order to get this budget done because it’s not going to be a pretty budget because people will hate it. They will hate us. They will be making those cut, but it’s all the money we have.”

It was one of the toughest challenges faced by Arnold Schwarzenegger during his governing period. In addition, after this, Arnold didn’t run for re-election because of term elections and stepped down in 2011 from the governor’s post in California.
