Last Saturday concluded the Arnold Classic 2023. The event, part of the larger Arnold Sports Festival, took place with much fanfare and with some high-end bodybuilding contests. In the end, it was the Nigerian Lion Samson Dauda who took the crown. Dauda beat stiff competition from all over the world to win the Arnold Classic. And it wouldn’t have been possible without his coach, Milos Sarcev. However, Sarcev’s contribution went far and beyond coaching Dauda that took in consideration the extensive care of his health. Here’s how.
Dauda was Sarcev’s only client for this year’s competition, and the former Serbian Mr. Universe winner took care of every minute detail of Dauda’s lifestyle. That included keeping his client healthy and fit at all costs, despite multiple requests from all factions of the bodybuilding community.

Recently, Milos Sarcev appeared on the Cutler Cast podcast with 4X Mr. Olympia winner Jay Cutler. They mainly talked about the recently concluded Arnold Classic to talk about Dauda’s journey toward winning the competition. To put it simply, Sarcev ensured that Dauda wasn’t dehydrated at any point in time. He simply said, “We don’t need to go that far.” But why is that? Let’s find out.
“Medically, when you dehydrate your body over 10%, it’s considered danger… You can imagine me, as Samson’s coach, how many messages, ‘Oh! Suck him dry, suck him dry, suck him dry, right? What do you mean by sucking him dry?” said Sarcev on the podcast. They soon realized the double entendre in those messages and shared a hearty laugh among themselves. Sarcev continued, “How do you get somebody drier? Oh! So you want me to use more diuretics?” This is when he realized that dehydrating could potentially harm Dauda.
Sarcev said he goes by this belief after he saw a YouTube thumbnail with eight-time Olympia Lee Haney talking to Ron Harris of the Muscular Development podcast. And it’s written, “Stop rewarding dry condition”.
Sarcev swears by Lee Haney’s words of wisdom
Sarcev believes that a certain level of dehydration, useful enough for competition, can be achieved naturally. Furthering his learning from Lee Haney, Sarcev continued it’s important to have longevity, live healthy, and have endurance. But health needs to be kept in check.

He said, “the fact is, if you want to have that crazy conditioning, you need to go a step further. And I consider it we don’t need to go that far.” However, Dauda still won the competition. And as luck would have it, the bodybuilding community has drawn comparisons of him with the great Lee Haney himself.

This happened after Sarcev himself posted a side-by-side comparative picture of Dauda with Haney on Instagram. The comments took care of the rest. On the back of this win, Sarcev believes his pupil now stands a strong chance at winning the Mr. Olympia 2023. And that he can beat tournament favorites like Hadi Choopan and Derek Lunsford come November. Do you think Dauda can win two-in-two this year? Let us know.
