Set for Set recently recalled a few of his best gym records in a September 2022 article. The article shed light on Ronnie’s lifestyle, his workout routine, and his diet.

Ronnie Coleman was not human

Coleman’s feats of glory are endless. He has proved himself both on the stage of Mr. Olympia and also off it. Recently, he recovered from a life-threatening ailment. He endured over 13 surgeries and was left bedridden but alive.

His entire career had witnessed multiple surgeries and recovery periods. Today, the athlete walks on his feet again, but not before risking everything in his pursuit of glory.

It is no secret that Ronnie was a gym freak. “As a power bodybuilder, Ronnie loved free weight movements,“ states the article. Speaking about his max records, it adds, “Ronnie squatted and deadlifted 800 pounds for two reps, bench pressed 495 pounds for five reps, and overhead pressed 315 pounds for 11 reps. An honorable mention goes to his 2,300-pound leg press for eight reps. Yes, you read that right, eight reps.”

Ronnie Coleman was known for his intensive workout regimens. His workout split was the most sought-after during his glory days. He could train every muscle group twice as frequently as his rivals and therefore gain strength and muscle mass far more quickly than anyone else. One of Ronnie’s favorite techniques was to work for each muscle group twice, utilizing entirely different routines and activities.

Coleman used to train religiously. “Without fail, Ronnie trained Monday-Saturday at noon,” writes Set For Set. Persistent workouts did not favor the athlete, though. Later in his life, he got diagnosed with a herniated disk because of it. In the end, he lost much of his mobility.

Although Ronnie is alive and well, his own life was at risk for the sake of his passion. His gym was his salvation, but perhaps also his curse. “Ronnie loved Metroflex Gym in Arlington, Texas,” states the article.
