Humanity is ridden with certain medical conditions that can be very difficult to overcome. One of them is Alzheimer’s. Arnold Schwarzenegger, however, believes that with baby steps, one can find a way to solve this fast-growing problem. And these steps involve a new addition to one’s workout routine.

In his newsletter Pump Daily, Schwarzenegger reveals a form of exercise that can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s. Since the step is backed by research, the former bodybuilder endorsed it enthusiastically to his fans. Coincidentally, the disease has often been a point of discussion and concern for not only Schwarzenegger but also his ex-wife, American journalist Maria Shriver.

The Austrian Oak’s newsletter offers a wide variety of content, ranging from Q&A, food recipes, and facts about working out. The recent email talked about Australian researchers linking certain workout styles with Alzheimer’s. In a step to fight the disease, researchers mentioned that resistance training showed positive results against cognitive decline.

Pumping up in the gym could prevent the breakdown and shrinkage of a special part of the brain. The hippocampus is usually the most common area that the disease attacks. The newsletter therefore recommended “Brain training or a combination of strength and brain exercises.”.

A little goes a long way. With this mindset, Pump Daily recommended at least 90 minutes of workout every week, distributed through multiple sessions. Not only is this beneficial to build up but it is also helpful for the brain. While Schwarzenegger has actively addressed solutions to the disease, his ex-wife took things up a notch by implementing a special sport into her routine.

Boxing away health risks: What was Maria Shriver’s move toward Alzheimer’s?

Maria Shriver has always been vocal about her initiatives toward women’s Alzheimer’s. In fact, she and her son created a snack bar brand Mosh that encourages awareness for the same cause. The journalist once took to Twitter to share an exercise she practiced in order to keep her brain healthy.

She posted a photo of a boxing class, and wrote, “Got heart rates up boxing because cardiovascular health is key to brain health”. Echoing the same sentiments, Shriver also believed in working out in order to keep the risks of Alzheimer’s at bay.
