A peek into the rigorous routine of Ronnie Coleman

Ronnie Coleman underwent a unique routine, in order to become one of the greatest bodybuilders. Unlike others in his field, his training plan was synchronous to that of ‘power building’. This meant that not only would he continue his reps and machine exercises, but he would also include intensive weightlifting into his routine.

He stressed the importance of weightlifting for proper bodybuilding. According to the legend, strength training made his muscles look denser. His secret to a successful training session was equal parts exercising and resting of muscles. His routine included multiple sets of deadlifts, bicep curls, shoulder presses etc. The goal was to work every muscle in the body. Apart from exercise, Coleman’s diet has also garnered a lot of attention. A man like him not only needs to focus on nutrition but also maintain his appearance. Therefore, his diet included massive amounts of calories and protein to help him sustain himself.

During an interview, Coleman confessed how bodybuilding was always his passion. He won his first Mr Olympia title in 1998. The sport always motivated him to get up and train, while the payment was a cherry on top. His first title transformed him and made him work harder, since he had to prove himself worthy.

After a few years, he decided to build a successful career as a professional bodybuilder.

Post retirement blues for Coleman?

After having a successful career and establishing his name in the sport, Coleman decided to retire. His last Mr Olympia contest didn’t go as well as he expected. When asked why he confessed that his workouts got to him. Coleman stated, “All of the workouts I went through eventually caught up with me. I had serious problems with my back. In fact, I never took a long break to let my body fully recover.”

The legend also mentioned how he missed his pre-competition training. Now that he is no longer preparing for the title, the ace bodybuilder reminisced his contest days. He continued, “I was under enormous pressure during each preparation for Mr. Olympia. Nowadays, I’m a little bored. I somehow miss even pre-competition training and diet.“

While Coleman might have retired from the sport, he is still one of the icons that bodybuilders look up to. His showmanship and build are works of art enjoyed by enthusiasts everywhere.
