While winning back-to-back trophies in the sport, Wheeler had his own fair share of obstacles going on. From his teenage days, he had been suffering from a kidney disease, which didn’t dissipate even after a kidney transplant in 2003. However, in 2019, the icon who had already undergone nearly 40 surgeries, went through another one. Notably, Wheeler had to get rid of his leg to survive. This was indeed a huge thing for a bodybuilder who looks to his body as a temple. Yet, he overcame that too.

Recently, Wheeler posted a video where he offered his viewers to take a sip from his cup. ” Getting to know ‘Flex.’ I have changed so much and learned even more…”, read the caption. Where he shared how he struggled every day while comparing his abilities to that of any other “elderly man.” Wheeler explained, “I mean honestly, now I’ll see an elderly person walk and I’ll look down like, they’ve got two legs, you know, they’re doing better than me, they’re doing great. And I just get on with my life.”
