Almost burned in a fire, nurse joins bodybuilding to find happiness

In April 2021, a 29-year-old Charlesworth was at a pub in Suffolk with her cousin. Unfortunately, a ventilator the in the pub exploded and injured Charlesworth and her sister.

The bodybuilder sustained multiple burns on her neck and face, due to which she was on the ventilator. However, Charlesworth always wanted to participate in bodybuilding contests, and soon after recovery, she entered the industry. During an interview with BBC, Charlesworth mentioned, “I felt nervous and scared but I am extremely proud of myself. Taking part in the show has definitely given me more confidence in myself and my capabilities.”

Charlesworth has many scars on her body left from the horrendous incident. Hence, she reached out to the bodybuilding federation to let them know about her scars, as bodybuilders need to wear bikinis on stage. Much to Charlesworth’s relief, the federation and the makeup artist were indeed very welcoming and helped the bodybuilder feel comfortable on stage.

“The girls that knew about the burns were so reassuring to me and helped me right up until stepping on that stage and I feel privileged to have come away with some new friends in the competing world,” said a happy Charlesworth.
