The bodybuilding stage has seen many great rivalries. There were more stories than that picture could ever capture, some things only the competitor knows. Amongst the many famous bodybuilding rivalries, one is that of Flex-Wheeler and Ronnie Coleman. To compete with the King was no child’s play, and Flex was always aware of the harboring pressure.

1998 was a crucial year for bodybuilding; that year, the stage got a new winner. Ronnie clinched the first of his eight titles, whereas Arnold Schwarzenegger’s favorite bodybuilder, Flex Wheeler, secured the second spot. Though Flex never really cared about Ronnie, becoming the winner because he knew he hadn’t “put everything into it.” He, however, was a little affected by what happened afterward.

Flex talked about the off-stage secrets that involved Ronnie Coleman

Even though Flex and Ronnie were stage rivals, the two never harbored any ill feelings for each other. They were more focused on their part. As Ronnie concentrated on himself, Flex felt the “pressure of being the next in line to win.”

As Ronnie went to secure his first-ever Mr. Olympia win, Flex being the good sport, congratulated him. He said“Congratulations, I love you.” However, the reply that came was not expected. Instead of a thank you, Ronnie replied, saying, “joking.” He also informed Flex, “I’m not gonna be at your party tonight.” That day, Flex went to the party alone, but he was “more proud of” himself.

Instances like these are not new to the sports field. Much like Ronnie, the multiple NBA title winner Michael Jordan also has a reputation for being ‘unnecessarily rude’ to his fellow competitors. One such instance was when The Greatest of all Times turned down Chamillionaire’s photo request, but not in the best possible manner.

Rapper Chamillionaire had always been a Jordan admirer. Thus, when he had the opportunity to meet his childhood hero, the latter could not stop himself from requesting to click a photo. However, the request was not well met by the basketball player.

Jordan did not just ignore him but also used unparliamentary words. He replied, “You know what, I tell you what, you pay $15,000 right now for a jersey from me, and I’ll take a picture with you.”
