Renowned reporter Maria Shriver is a philanthropist at heart. The ex-wife of the former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has always been keen to highlight the issues that plague society and humanity. Shriver has also been part of the world of politics. While she never pursued politics in her career, the daughter of Eunice Kennedy has always been around people who have. Hence, when Shriver saw a saddening update on the former President of the United States and a fellow philanthropist, she penned an emotional tribute.

After the non-profit organization founded by former president James Earl Carter Jr. released a statement on his health, Shriver retweeted it. The niece of the former president, John F. Kennedy, Shriver had nothing but praise for President Carter.

Earlier today, the official Twitter handle of The Carter Center posted a saddening update on the former president’s heath. In the statement on President Carter’s health, the Carter Center announced Carter won’t seek further medical intervention. “After a series of short hospital stays, former US President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family,” read the statement.

The statement also revealed that the oldest ex-president of America has opted for hospice care at 98. “He has the full support of his family and his medical team,” revealed the Carter Center statement. Shriver retweeted the message and wrote an emotionally charged tribute to the former president of the United States.

Maria Shriver called Jimmy Carter an inspiration. “This man moves humanity forward every single day. He is such an inspiration,” wrote Shriver. She also admired the former US Naval serviceman’s efforts for the public. “(he) Devoted his whole life to public service. Sending him and his family my love, my respect, my support,” Shriver wrote in her post. Carter got diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Despite beating cancer, Carter’s health has gradually deteriorated.

A public servant for life

As the ex-wife of the former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger said, James Earl Carter Jr. devoted his life to public service. Born in 1924 in the small town of Plains, Georgia, Carter graduated from the Naval academy in 1946. He went through training to serve on submarines and became part of the U.S. Navy’s fledgling nuclear submarine program.

After serving his nation as a naval officer, Carter became a farmer. Before stepping into politics and becoming the POTUS, Jimmy Carter took over his family’s peanut-growing business. Despite initial difficulties, Carter became a successful farmer.
