Recently, he spoke to The Stage about his personal life and revealed something that made headlines. The star recalled how he came out of the closet as a gay man in 2005. However, the reason behind the private announcement involved Arnold Schwarzenegger’s political activities.

Takei recalled how he came out to protest against Schwarzenegger’s political choices. In 2005, the Governor used his veto for a bill that legalized gay marriage in California. Similarly, he also vetoed another bill legalizing same-sex marriage two years later. The former act angered Takei, who was already in a relationship with his husband.

Takei revealed in The Stage interview, “Schwarzenegger presented himself as a movie star who had worked and was friends with gays and lesbians, many of whom voted for him, but then vetoed that bill. I was so angry that I spoke to the press for the first time as a gay man at the age of 68”.

However, things changed in 2010 when The Terminator star reflected upon his decisions. He surprised LGBTQIA+ activists by urging the government to resume gay marriage at the earliest.
