Getting recognized by the legendary bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger must have been a dream come true for Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal. The 2015 movie Southpaw stars Gyllenhaal as a professional boxing champion. Although the movie didn’t make it big at the box office, fans praised him as Billy Hope for his physique.

In a 2021 episode of The Graham Norton Show, Norton interviewed the Southpaw star along with the Terminator star. Besides complimenting Gyllenhaal’s fitness, Schwarzenegger pointed out a striking aspect of his physique.

Gyllenhaal breathed life into his role as a competitive boxer with the perfect fitness and strength the role demanded, as recognized by the former bodybuilding champion. In the talk show, Schwarzenegger took time to acknowledge the phenomenal transformation the ‘Day After Tomorrow’ star went through for the part.

The Hollywood action star said he had seen many pictures of the fight scene and the movie trailer. However, he said he didn’t watch the movie. “The body was really extraordinary,” Shwarzenegger praised. Speaking about the authenticity of Gyllenhaal’s physique, he exclaimed, “literally you know, zero body fat.”

Gyllenhaal left everyone baffled by his stunning fitness. During the talk show, the Prisoners’ star gave a glimpse into the slow journey towards bringing about the toned zero body fat appearance.

Jake focused on learning how to box

Surprisingly, Gyllenhaal didn’t undertake any special training to achieve his level of fitness. But, he worked on emulating a pro boxer’s moves and body language. “The goal was to learn how to box, and I learned the methodology and the techniques of boxing and then slowly and slowly got into shape.” Highlighting his gradual development, he said that it took over five months of effort and patience.
