It is not that Yates wanted to quit bodybuilding or break ties with the sport that he loved so much. Then what forced him to discontinue his bodybuilding regime? To silence all impending questions, the wise bodybuilder revealed the real reason behind giving up on bodybuilding altogether.

Why Dorian Yates cannot train like a bodybuilder?

The 6x Mr. Olympia champion had featured on the MD’s Global Muscle Radio show in 2019. Here, he discussed bodybuilding, injuries, and training. During this candid chat, Yates revealed how several injuries did not just force him to quit his profession but also stopped him from training after retirement.

The legend disclosed, “Probably five years ago, I was still doing what I could, as far as bodybuilding training, but it was limited.” However, as time passed, Yates was unable to do even the slightest of bodybuilding training he used to do before. “I was limited because I’ve got a bicep and tricep injury on my left side, which everybody knows about from my career I guess,” Yates recalled.

Further explaining his other injuries, he added, “Also, I got a shoulder injury on that side, which actually was already injured. It was already a partially torn supraspinatus from the bodybuilding, from all the heavy lifting.” Although these injuries restricted Yates from his bodybuilding routine, he did not lose hope.

Do you think yoga could be an alternative training method for all bodybuilders after their retirement?
