Jay Cutler is a retired American bodybuilding legend. He is a four-time Mr. Olympia title winner and won the prestigious championship title on four occasions in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010. Owing to his excellent achievements and success, Cutler can claim to be the best pro bodybuilder in history.

The legend is also famous for his quadriceps and the quad-stamp pose. Many young bodybuilders look up to Cutler as their inspiration and wish to build a massive frame like him. However, during an old interview, Cutler once busted a bodybuilding myth for everyone and shared his views on the same.

Cutler’s opinion on weightlifting and the importance of rest

In 2015, the Mr. Olympia winner discussed his training routine with go6pack. During this interview, Cutler revealed that more heavy lifting and fewer rest intervals are not ideal for any bodybuilder.

When the interviewer asked Cutler if he also trains more and rests less like other bodybuilders, he immediately denied it. Cutler said, “People want to judge progress only by how much they can lift. That’s absolutely backward from what bodybuilding really is.” According to Cutler, lifting heavier weights doesn’t guarantee your success.

In bodybuilding, resting is equally important as training. Explaining further, Cutler said, “I don’t believe that strength has anything to do with what we do [as bodybuilders].” Known for his quadriceps, one must have thought that Cutler might focus more on lifting heavier weights. However, the bodybuilder clearly denied it and also focused on lifting being not the only important part of bodybuilding training.

According to Cutler, if a bodybuilder does not take rest intervals and keeps on lifting, then their body and muscles become sore, which is not the goal of bodybuilding.

Even after retirement, the 49-year-old bodybuilder is as fit and muscled as ever. Like other bodybuilders, Cutler also has his way of training style and routine.

The 4X Mr. Olympia champion ensured to work out every muscle before leaving the gym. According to JackedGORILLA, in a week, Cutler used to work out for five days, resting and recovering for the remaining two days. In a single day, he focused on a muscle or two, with well-divided intervals between each set.
