Jeancarlo Danies used to weigh 430 lbs in 2019. Being obese meant Danies faced difficulty in doing day-to-day tasks. Suffering from obesity, Danies revealed he couldn’t move around and spent all day inside his home. He also told Bodybuilding.com he used to get up from bed and move to the sofa. For dinner, Danies would move to the dinner table and would shower once every two days.

Things got so bad that his wife had to tie his shoelaces for him. After his ankle turned purple, Jeancarlo visited the physician. However, the physician’s words were far from assuring. “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll be dead in two years.“, said the physician. Jeancarlo knew he had to turn things around.
From 430 lb to competing in bodybuilding
In 2021 Bodybuilding.com’s content editor, Heather Eastman, sat down for a chat with Jeancarlo ‘JC’ Danies. JC explained that after the physician’s prognosis, he went to a nutritionist who fixed his diet. Danies said he cut down on sugary foods and unhealthy fats. Instead, JC shifted to a diet rich in protein, vegetables, and healthy fats. JC started walking and joined a gym shortly after.

Once Danies started training at the gym, he began doing about half an hour of cardio. However, JC didn’t give up his favorite sugary food all at once. While he maintained a strict diet, once a week, JC indulged in some savory snacks. However, JC began having fun after he began weight training in the gym.

After dropping 130 lbs, JC got serious and said, “I knew I wanted to compete. I hired a trainer. I just closed my eyes and did whatever he asked.” Two years later, in 2021, JC stepped onto the WBFF bodybuilding stage as a competitor in the ‘transformation’ division. Danies said the organizers put a before a picture on stage.”As soon as I walked onstage, I heard everyone gasp, “Oh, my God!“

Jeancarlo won his division and qualified for words. In the end, JC had dropped nearly 222 lbs and defeated obesity. However, his journey wasn’t an upward graph of success.
It wasn’t smooth sailing all the time
Danies’ weight stagnated after getting to around 300 lbs. JC got discouraged, and within a few weeks, he gained 13 lbs again. However, Danies said, “I was like, ‘No, this can’t happen again.'” He worked harder.
