However, pregnancy cravings and junk food usually go hand-in-hand. Despite all the odds, a mother has overcome all her unhealthy cravings to become a bodybuilding champion. Follow her journey of how she went from having a bloated stomach to a toned bodybuilder in just three years.
The inspiring story of bodybuilding athlete Blanka Harvey
Hailing from Leicestershire, 31-year-old Harvey is a mother of two kids. During her pregnancy, Harvey indulged in many meals from the famous fast-food chain McDonald’s. Along with this, she also ate many doughnuts. As a result, Harvey put on a lot of pounds following her second pregnancy.

Soon Harvey realized that she was consuming a lot of unhealthy food due to her pregnancy cravings. According to Daily Mail, in 2019, she decided to ditch her favorite junk food and joined the gym. “I was always very active and fit before the children and I gained a lot of weight during the second pregnancy. I love doughnuts, I used to have them all the time and I just wanted to feel myself again,” said the bodybuilder
Soon after joining the gym, Harvey shed an impressive 70 pounds in a short period. Later, she became a fitness instructor and Zumba teacher. “During lockdown, I taught Zumba from home and I completed my level two fitness instructor license,” Harey recalled.
In 2021, Harvey decided to become a professional bodybuilder and create a career in the sport. Harvey trained accordingly and eventually dropped four dress sizes. She then went on to win her first-ever bodybuilding competition after three years of hard work. Talking about her first win, Harvey said, “I had my first competition last year and I won my first show, which qualified me for the British finals, and I won the British finals last year.”

The bodybuilder, who is now preparing for the world championships, currently trains hard in the gym. Harvey wants other women to be inspired by her work and achieve their goals. To be a role model for other women, especially women of her age, is her aspiration.
Why is too much junk food unhealthy for a bodybuilder?
Predominantly, junk food is not ideal for a person’s health. These foods lead to many health issues, like obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and even cancers.

Bodybuilders can consume sugar in the form of fruits, not junk foods, as they contain refined sugar. This type of food will make bodybuilders plump, which does not help in building muscles. Hence, most bodybuilders avoid all kinds of fast food and encourage others to do so.
