While the holiday season usually brings in cheer and joy, the mood is a bit somber for Maria Shriver. The journalist and ex-wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger ruminated over the year’s end while also reflecting upon some key memories. One of the concerns she raised was the alarming rates of men’s suicides in the country.

In light of dancer tWitch’s untimely demise, Shriver took to her newsletter to share her thoughts on men’s mental health.

A cause of concern: Men’s declining mental health worries Maria

With the onset of festivities and celebrations, an unfortunate side is a general sadness for various reasons. Shriver addressed this side of the holidays, where a certain level of awareness was necessary. Not everyone had the privilege to enjoy holidays, and being mindful of it was necessary. Ordinary days have long gone, and Shriver reminded her readers about that by citing tWitch’s demise as an instance.

It led the journalist to reflect upon the poor mental health of the country’s men. Presenting some shocking statistics, where 80% of suicide victims were men, Shriver took a moment to think. She also highlighted a shocking fact: “more than 100 men take their own lives every day”. Being a mother of two sons, while also having more men in her family, these statistics concerned her.

Regardless of their age and background, men seem to be hurting behind closed curtains. It’s the harsh truth that only came to light in recent years. While Shriver acknowledged this, she vehemently encouraged readers to take a moment and speak to the men in their lives.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on maintaining mental health

The Governator is no stranger to mental health struggles. A few years ago, when he engaged in an interactive session with fans, he helped out someone struggling with depression. The person in question struggled to go to the gym and asked Schwarzenegger to help him out.

However, in a heartwarming message, the former bodybuilder requested the fan to take things one at a time and not be too hard on themselves. It not only encouraged the fan to get going but also prompted others to share their stories. Traditionally, society does not allow men to speak about their feelings.
