The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine in 2023 has sparked global concern. The issue started when the Hamas group launched a sudden rocket attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. In response to this attack, Israel launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and ordered a complete siege by blocking entry of food, fuel and supplies. Gaza’s neonatal care unit faces a critical shortage of fuel and vital medicines for its patients. ?We have currently 120 neonates who are in incubators, out of which we have 70 neonates with mechanical ventilation, and of course this is where we are extremely concerned,? UNICEF spokesperson Jonathan Crickx said. Even doctors warn that without electricity, 55 of the patients could lose their lives in just five minutes. The dire situation is exacerbated by a scarcity of water, food, medicines, and fuel for Gaza’s 2.3 million people.

The ongoing conflict in Palestine and Israel has resulted in a grave toll on children and families. UNICEF strongly condemns the killing, injuring, and abduction of children and calls on all parties to protect them. There are reports of newly displaced people, many of them children, in Gaza, with damage to shelter facilities.
UNICEF captioned its post: ?Fuel means safe water. Fuel means functioning health facilities. and it is desperately needed in Gaza to operate hospitals, desalination plants and water pumping stations. As limited, yet life-saving medicine, food and water enter Gaza on UN trucks, it?s critical that fuel is allowed through too. The death toll will increase exponentially if hospitals don?t have electricity to function if children continue to drink unsafe water and have no access to medicine when they get sick.”
