Due to the travesties happening in Ukraine, there were doubts about whether the athletes would make it to the Paralympics. However, they arrived to compete at the Beijing Winter Paralympics. The opening ceremony of the Paralympics is underway as Ukraine makes its way out to the track. Greeted by fans and volunteers on the track, it comes with a great sense of pride and excitement to the country, which is facing a lot of problems.

The Ukrainian Paralympic committee president Valeriy Sushkevych talked about the troubles that they faced to reach China. Hence, it is a great moment for everyone involved with the country.

Ukraine appears for Beijing Winter Paralympics opening ceremony

During the Parade of Nations opening ceremony, Ukraine made its way out with its flag bearer, who proudly waved the flag. Although there was an obvious sense of anguish on the athlete’s faces, the team received a huge round of applause. The fans in attendance showed their appreciation as they came out to represent their country during these trepid times. Thus, it became a memorable occasion for everybody involved.

Although tensions exist in the country, their athletes have come out to represent their nation. 29 athletes, along with nine guides reached China, to represent their nation at the Beijing Winter Paralympics 2022. However, reaching the location proved to be a mighty task for everyone involved.

A glimmer of hope

The UPC president talked about the struggles they faced while reaching the country. With all the travel restrictions and everything that is in place, he spoke about this being a ‘miracle’ that the countries are in the place right now.

“More than four days and four nights we (took to) come here. It’s a miracle that we’re here… A part of our team was already abroad. A part of our team was in Ukraine. All the necessary equipment was in Ukraine… We had to unite all those parts. It is 25 years I am president of the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine. And never was it so difficult, so heavy to come to the Paralympic Games,” said Sushkevych.
