Decorated World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Mikaela Shiffrin, did not have the best Winter Olympics this year. The icy slopes of the Beijing Winter Olympics were punishing for the American ski racer.
Not only did she fail to win a medal in any individual event, but she also had three DNF (Did Not Finish) results in three events. Thus, she faced a lot of negative criticism, which she addressed on social media.
Mikaela took to social media to call out and silence her haters, expressing how she would continue to fight and compete. Now, she has explained who the message really was for, and what she intended to say with her posts.

Mikaela Shiffrin has a message, but not for the haters
After facing a barrage of negative comments owing to her lack of results at the Beijing Winter Olympics, Mikaela Shiffrin called out her haters. She pointed out many of the insults that people hurled towards her because of her performance.
Then, she wrote at length about how she was unfazed and would continue to compete and get up.

Shiffrin explained how she didn’t intend her post “for the haters”, but those who are on the receiving end of hate. Moreover, she also explained her philosophy about never responding to hate with hate.
“I truly believe that if you try to address the haters by hating on the haters, it really only continues to spread hate. And It doesn’t fix the problem,” Mikaela expressed.

“You’re really not gonna do anything to make them stop hating you,” she said. “So, you really might as well not waste energy on that,” she advised.
She then addressed people who experience any kind of hate, any negative comments which make them “feel like your entire self worth is summed up in awful sentences sent by an awful person who thinks awful things about you”.
Mikaela’s advice for everyone facing hate
“Get up and keep going,” Mikaela Shiffrin advised everyone in the world facing naysayers. “Get out of bed the next day, even though you’re getting these messages that make you feel awful,.. that’s okay,” she reassured fans.
“They (haters) are always going to be there,” Mikaela Shiffrin stated. Thus, one can choose to dwell on their negative comments, “let them make you want to disappear and just never be seen again”.
However, there’s always another choice, which is to say “I’ve got a lot more to give to this world, so back off and let me do my thing”. Mikaela then directly asks people who deal with naysayers to not attack their haters back.

“They don’t deserve your time being wasted on them,” she said. Furthermore, she also wants the message to spread. “Just spread the message to the next person who’s getting hate,” she asked.

“Keep on going, keep getting up and do your thing,” Mikaela Shiffrin said.
Truly, her words show her mettle as a champion, not just on the slopes, but emotionally and mentally as well.
