The sensational skier returned to the hill to take part in the Supergiant slalom competition. Although she was at a rapid pace during the first split, she could not carry that momentum down the finishing line. Hence, she put on a time of 1:14.30 and finished ninth in the rankings. Likewise, there was a difference of +0.79 to the top as Shiffrin ended her Super-G event. A disappointed Shiffrin though loved the support she received from people all over the world and thanked everyone involved.

“I would never have expected to feel in this moment, you know severely underperforming in the Olympics. I would never have felt that humans could be so kind. And, I would have never expected that. It is the most surprising thing of my Olympic experience that’s how kind people have been in the face of my failure. It is failure, it’s okay to say that. I am okay with that and I am sorry for it. But, I was trying, I am proud of that,” said Shiffrin.

In spite of all the love and adulation, she seemed visibly upset with her performance in Beijing. In her prime, she could have won both competitions, but her preparations for this year’s Olympics were not up to the mark, with different factors coming into play.
