Three-time Olympic medalist Mikaela Shiffrin is yet to win a single medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. For the first time in her career, Shiffrin placed outside of the top-10.
Moreover, she also suffered from consecutive crashes in the women’s slalom and giant slalom events. In the women’s downhill, Shiffrin finished eighteenth- quite unexpected from a skier of her caliber.
Nevertheless, Shiffrin is on course for making history at the Olympics, after deciding to compete at the team event as well.

Mikaela Shiffrin is about to etch her name in the history books
26-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin is about to make history at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. The star alpine ski racer was going to compete in five events during these Olympics.
However, she has now changed her mind and decided to participate in the mixed team event later this week as well. Thus, she would have competed in a record six Alpine events.

In fact, she will become only the second woman to compete in six Alpine events at the Olympics. Mikaela Shiffrin would be joining Slovakian Petra Vlhova, who competed in six events during the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Even though Vlhova didn’t stand atop a podium in any of her six 2018 events, she made up for it four years later. Remarkably, she just won the gold medal in the women’s slalom event on February 9th.
Following the women’s downhill event where she finished eighteenth, Shiffrin decided to do the mixed team event as well.
Shiffrin is looking ahead confidently
After her downhill race, Shiffrin seemed more relaxed and at ease than she has lately been. Nevertheless, she gave credit where due, acknowledging her competition but not putting herself down either.
Talking about her competitors, Shiffrin stated that “there’s a couple women who have a really good shot for strong downhill runs and also really strong slalom runs.” While not taking any results or matches for granted, Mikaela Shiffrin did say that she thinks she has a shot.
"I think I have a shot and that's really nice." 💫

“I will go for it and we will see,” she said expectantly. After all, the 2022 Winter Olympics aren’t done yet, so the jury’s still out on whether the American could bag another medal.
