World champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Mikaela Shiffrin, did not secure any medals at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. In fact, she did not finish three out of her five individual events.
However, she still had a record-tying achievement of competing in six different Olympic events. Sadly, Shiffrin left Beijing without a single medal, as Team USA finished fourth, just shy of bronze.
It is no secret that Mikaela Shiffrin stopped snowboarding in 2020 for several months. This was owing to the untimely demise of her father that year. Now, she reveals how it was her brother at that time who helped her gain perspective.

Mikaela Shiffrin reveals how her brother shared their dad’s perspective
The Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 were not kind to Mikaela Shiffrin. Right in the beginning, she crashed during two of her main events, the slalom, and the giant slalom.
Subsequently, Shiffrin failed to secure a podium finish for the next two events. Thus, when it came time to compete in her fifth and final individual event, the women’s combined slalom, it was all or nothing for Shiffrin.

Sadly, she skied out in the final event, and ended up with a DNF (Did Not Finish) result. Shiffrin later revealed after the Winter Olympics were over, that it was in her tough moments when she missed her father the most.
She further described how her brother encouraged and appreciated her ski runs, despite the fact that they ended in DNF results. Shiffrin shared how her brother helped her see “that even though it’s really good and important to be frustrated and disappointed, it’s also just kind of something that stinks”.
Moreover, Mikaela Shiffrin had even considered leaving the Winter Olympics 2022, after her first two races. “You have to take it and you have to accept it. You have to be proud that you even got there and tried,” she shared what her brother Taylor said to her during that time.
Then, Shiffrin stated how she believed her brother was speaking “from a perspective that maybe (her) dad would have been able to give (them)”. “We were wishing that we could call him (her father),” she expressed.
“Taylor (her brother) helped us see some of those perspectives and viewpoints that my dad probably would have helped us see as well,” Mikaela Shiffrin said.
Shiffrin is grateful for her mother
Talking about her mother, Mikaela Shiffrin described how her mother is always there for her. “She carries me and all of my baggage, literally and figuratively,” Mikaela said with a chuckle.
Then Shiffrin’s eyes turned misty as she continued talking about her mother. “She just doesn’t complain,” Mikaela said. “She just gets me through.”
