Smith clashed with German skier Daniela Maier. But, after the footage review, there was clear impeding by Canada’s Marielle Thompson that led to her clashing with the German. Even the German skier Maier showed her support for the decision.
“What? What, What? No! No, no, no, no, no! This was correct! This was totally normal skiing,” said Maier. Hence, all broke loose with the decision as Smith was left shocked. This is not the first time that something like this has happened.

Ayumu Hirano wrongly deducted
The men’s half-pipe competition saw Ayumu Hirano win the gold medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics. However, during his second run, Hirano got massively underscored by the judges. Landing the first-ever triple cork, he could not believe what happened. After that, he carried on to put a similar final run. But this time, the judges gave him a good score which led to his first gold medal.
Nonetheless, inconsistencies in judging are prevalent in most competitions. A better understanding would be great for everyone involved. Competitions deserve fair judging, as the Olympics is a prestigious sporting event. Missing out on an Olympic medal because of judging cannot happen.
