The day when Mikaela Shiffrin crashed out of the giant slalom competition, everyone knew what would happen afterward. After facing criticisms from everyone, she crashed out of the slalom competitions, bringing her confidence to an all-time low. Although there were doubts regarding her withdrawal from events, she never gave up. Returning to the Super-G event, she finished the course and finished ninth.
After that, the downhill training session saw her racking up a good pace in the first training session. The comeback looks good as Shiffrin is looking to lead the way for the combined events according to skiing legend, Lindsey Vonn.

Lindsey Vonn thinks Mikaela Shiffrin can win the combined events
From one Olympian to another, Vonn faced a lot of injuries in her career, to come back stronger and shut down all the naysayers. Hence, she loves the determination being shown by Shiffrin and hopes her to compete well in her next event. Vonn is the gold medalist from the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics for the downhill event. Thus, she talked about the comeback of Shiffrin, from the first two disappointing losses. Vonn thinks she can win the combined event at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.

“I am really looking for the combined. I mean she got back to her feet after those two mishaps in slalom and giant slalom. She is ninth in Super G and she had a really good first-time downhill training run. She in my opinion is the favorite in the combined. I think she has a much better attitude now. You know, she said, I feel I don’t have pressure now and I’ve checked that box. Really looking forward to what she can do in the combined on Wednesday,” said Vonn.

The effects of mental health struggles are well documented these days. It is not a straightforward task to come back with two significant losses. Hence, Shiffrin has done a good job in getting back the competition.

Simone Biles’ struggles
When Simone Biles withdrew from gymnastics competitions at the Tokyo Olympics 2022, she faced a lot of issues of not being able to perform because of various pressures and expectations. With the dreaded twisties coming into play as well, she is taking a break from gymnastics. However, she made a comeback and won the bronze medal in her signature balance beam competition.
Shiffrin can take some notes and produce a fine display and shut down all the criticisms. She is one of the best Alpine skiers in the world. Her dominance in the event fetched her two gold medals at the Winter Olympics. She is not done yet!
