A decade has passed since the FIBA 3×3 World Tour has taken basketball to new heights. The anticipation has gathered a legion of dedicated fans worldwide. The tour is set to reach the 100th Masters event and is going to take place in Amsterdam on October 6 and 7.

The genesis of 3×3 basketball was started by the visionary mind of former FIBA Secretary General, Patrick Baumann. He took inspiration from the dynamic world of streetball. The basketball governing body, knowing very little about the style, was skeptical about formalizing the 3×3 format in the late 2000s. After a lot of adjustments to the global trials, 3×3 basketball came into the Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010. Now the USA is all set for a historic FIBA 3×3 showdown.

Amsterdam is a city known for its picturesque canals and vibrant culture, and now, in basketball history. It will be added to the list of global destinations that have hosted the World Tour since its inception in 2012. A recent post has been shared by FIBA3x3 on X, formerly Twitter, on the upcoming game.

The World Tour has expanded from its early days, from featuring Eastern European and North American teams to teams from all over the world. The addition of 17 Masters events in the 2023 season is an indication of its increasing popularity. As 3×3 basketball continues, it’s clear that the next 100 Masters events will be just as exciting. The fans can look forward to more thrilling 3×3 basketball action in the future.

A mere two years after its debut on the Olympic stage, a professional league emerged the World Tour. Here, players fiercely battled for the name, making it an urban sport. The very first Masters event took place in the bustling streets of Sao Paulo in July 2012. It marked the inception of a great walkway that would span the globe, culminating in the grand finale in Miami.

Talking about the players, Amsterdam will have its own representation at the Masters, with Amsterdam HiPRO featuring in Pool C, against Serbia’s Liman Huishan NE and Lithuania’s Marijampole Mantinga. De Jong, a Dutch player and local hero, delivers some exciting plays during the tournament.

Meanwhile, Pool A is expected to be the Masters’ Group of Death, with Serbia’s Ub Huishan NE and Partizan, alongside France’s Paris. Strahinja Stojacic, known as ‘Doctor Strange,’ is a top-ranked player and a strong contender to end the title drought for the Ub team. Franck Seguela, another talented player, is leading the Paris team and aims to secure their maiden Masters triumph.

Pool B will have Belgium’s Antwerp TOPdesk, China’s Beijing and USA team Princeton pitted against each other. Dennis Donkor is described as a brilliant Belgian player, a great defender of MVP for the Antwerp TOPdesk team. Karlis Lasmanis, known as ‘Batman,’ is considered one of 3×3’s greatest players and aims to create history for Beijing.

Austria’s Vienna team will be pitted against USA’s Miami in a rematch as part of Pool D. Meanwhile, Netherlands’ Utrecht, Germany’s Dusseldorf LFDY and Romania’s Pite?ti Getica 95 will be battling it out to qualify as the third team on the pool. Fredette, known as ‘Jimmer Buckets,’ is a skilled shooter who could make a significant impact on the Miami team. Leon Fertig, a 22-year-old player at the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup is looking to shine on the World Tour in Amsterdam, however, this is up to whether the team will qualify for Pool D.

Along the way, 3×3 basketball attained Olympic status, which led them to the World Tour. This is creating a rapid increase in the number of their fans.
