A tragedy has hit the home of the basketball legend LeBron James. The NBA superstar’s son, Bronny James, is 18 years old and currently studying at the University of Southern California. Shocking news has emerged that Bronny James endured a heart attack on Monday during practice with his college basketball team. Suffering from a cardiac arrest at such a young age has undoubtedly spooked his well-wishers and the sporting community.
Recently, Dave Portnoy, the famous American sports blogger and founder of Barstool Sports, also expressed his sentiments on the incident. His support comes as a surprise since he has long before declared in no uncertain terms that he is the no.1 hater of LeBron James in the world. However, Dave Portnoy came forward to not only express concern but also to slam others for not caring enough.

A Twitter user by the name ‘@DoubleVodkaDon’ took to the platform to share a recent controversy that has been taking place between Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA. The news relates to alleged recruiting violations and talks about the suspension of the coach. In reply to the tweet that shared the controversial news, Dave Portnoy essentially said that was not the incident of the hour, and all prayers should be with Bonny James. In reply to the Tweet, Portnoy said, “Bronny just had a heart attack.” He then made a dig at the original poster for not caring about the unfortunate incident enough.

Portnoy said, “Who cares about sports right now? Show some class Fatzo.” This support for Bronny James comes as a surprise as Dave Portnoy has previously made it clear that no love is lost between him and LeBron James. In November 2022, while on an episode of Patrick Beverley’s podcast, the Barstool Sports founder said, “I’m the number one LeBron hater in the world. I’m the league leader, like I think I wrote in like 2014-ish, ’27 reasons why I think LeBron James is the Antichrist.’ That was like a literal article that I published.” However, it seems like the incident has made Dave Portnoy have a change of heart about the matter.
One of the reasons could be the very shocking nature of the news, as having a cardiac arrest at the young age of 18 is not a good sign. While Bronny James was in the ICU, he was discharged from intensive care later due to being in stable condition. According to a CNN report, in a statement, LeBron James requested privacy while dealing with the matter. The NBA icon and his wife, Savannah, also appreciated the USC medical staff for keeping the athletes safe and sound. Now there’s only one thing to look forward to. That Bronny James, who is a potential basketball star, just like his father, makes a full recovery soon.
The origins of greatness
The son of LeBron James is a 6-foot-3 combo guard and has been rated as a five-star recruit by USC. He recently shone in McDonald’s All-American Game, an event featuring all the up-and-coming high school basketball stars. In his high school senior year, Bronny had an average of 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.7 steals. When Bronny decided to attend USC, in support of his son, LeBron James shared encouraging messages on social media. He wrote, “…I LOVE YOU!!!”
