Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani is a rising star. Enjoying widespread popularity for his versatile outfield and pitching, he is inherently dominating every other player in MLB. However, Shohei Ohtani and his dog Decoy’s equation seems to have a direct implication on his marriage decisions! A clip on Twitter is doing rounds recently that takes us back to 2018 when Olympian Daiya Seto had a dialogue with Ohtani regarding the same, making a hilarious revelation.

The concerned Twitter post features Japanese swimmer Daiya Seto as he talks about how the dog took over the fate of Ohtani’s marriage. The caption elaborates on what Shohei Ohtani’s bestie and Olympic gold medalist Daiya Seto had to say about him back in 2018. It reads Seto’s statement, “The other day Shohei told me he found a baby Dobermann at a pet store in LA and he was almost getting it because it is too cute. But, Sho said “If I get him, I think ‘I’ll never get married.”

And, down the line, it seems that marriage is off the charts for Ohtani. His inseparable presence with his pooch, Decoy, is doing rounds on the Internet. It is a Nederlandse Kooikerhondje and is sharing the spotlight equally with the player. Ohtani recently sealed the deal, ending his free agency, signing with LA Dodgers for 10 years, for a whopping amount of $700 million.

Ohtani reveals the meaning behind his dog’s name

During the Dodgers introductory news conference, Shohei Ohtani was bombarded by media and fans regarding the ultimate question. What does his dog’s name imply? The world first met Decoy last month, in November, when Ohtani secured his second American League MVP honor. And recently he revealed why he calls his pooch Decoy.

The dog has two names. Decoy and Dekopin. Ohtani elaborated, “His name is Dekopin. That’s a Japanese name. I figured it’d be hard for American people to pronounce it. He has an American name, it’s Decoy.” The name Dekopin in Japanese implies flicking one’s forehead.
