The rangers were aware that the Yankees are the richest team in baseball and they had to up their game if they were to steal Corey. Hence, handing him a mouth-watering contract, they acquired the former Los Angeles Dodgers star for a whopping million-dollar deal.
Over $300 million deal for Corey Seager
Courtesy of the 27-year-old shortstop’s heroics last season, a $300 million deal was on the cards. However, while the deal was expected to come forward from the New York Yankees’ front office, the Texas Rangers gatecrashed the race and bagged the prize.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Texas Rangers have signed an agreement worth $325 million for 10 years with Corey Seager. Fun fact, the Rangers already have a shortstop on their side, Marcus Semien. Rangers had signed Marcus earlier for a $175 million deal. Undoubtedly, they have strengthened their chances for the 2022 season with their rather shocking purchases.

Hence, the Yankees’ front office needs to pull up their socks now, as their options continue to get limited, day by day.
Are there any options left for the Yankees?
If Rangers can offer Corey a $325 million deal, so can the Yankees. The Yankees GM, Brian Cashman, had admitted he was in conversation with all the free agents on the market, including Corey. However, reports state, the Yankees are not interested in offering Corey a big contract, as he had missed a lot of games because of his injury.

Regardless, with Corey out of contention now, who will they target next? Of course, the man who Yankees have left no chance to praise, Carlos Correa, is still available in the market. Whereas another top shortstop, Trevor Story, is also a free agent, right now.
If the Yankees want to reach the World Series in 2022, they need to gain one of these two shortstops. Who do you think is on Yankees’ radar, Carlos or Story?
