The clock’s ticking as the free agency will soon go into lockout, with many teams on a spending spree. However, as the big guns make some big money moves, New York Yankees seem far from ready for battle, having made no purchases yet.

Since the start of the off-season, the Yankees have had top shortstops like Corey Seager and Carlos Correa on their radar. However, it looks like the Rangers are now planning to hijack Corey, further limiting Yankees’ options.

Corey Seager’s New York Yankees future under threat

Former Los Angeles Dodgers star shortstop, Corey Seager has been the hot agent in the market, given his incredible outing on the field, in 2021. According to Joel Sherman, Corey is planning to sign his contract before the lockout, securing his future. While there were big names like Yankees, leading the race to Corey, new reports state that the Rangers might soon win that battle.

Interestingly, the Texas Rangers have already grabbed a shortstop to their side, but they are still on the lookout for another. Rangers had earlier signed a $175 million contract with Marcus Semien. If Rangers manage to sneak Corey from free agency, it will be a victory in itself for the franchise, as he is undeniably one of the best shortstops in the market.

Throwback at what Corey Seager can do

Back in 2020, Corey remarkably guided the Los Angeles Dodgers to World Series victory. Notably, despite being injured in the 2021 season, Corey made an incredible comeback on the field. Appearing in 95 games, Corey finished the season batting .306/.394/.521 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and 57 RBI.

Things are not looking good for the Yankees, as they continue to lose players to rival teams. The shortstop position is a priority for the Yankees to fill in, and with Corey possibly off the charts, they will have Carlos Correa and Trevor Story left in top free agency.

Wherever Corey will go next, he will definitely look for a minimum $300 million contract for the long term. Do you think the Rangers will defeat the Yankees in the free agency race and acquire Seager?
