After losing the AL Wild Card game, the New York Yankees have important decisions to make in the off-season. Even though some players hitting the free agency will look for a change, the Yankees don’t need to worry about Anthony Rizzo. Notably, the first baseman is eager to sign a new contract with the team.

New York Yankees faced their archrivals, Boston Red Sox, in the ‘win or go home match’. Astonishingly, the Sox defeated the Yankees in the AL Wild Card game by 6-2. After missing out on the World Series dream in 2021, the Yankees would need to make adverse decisions in 2022.

Anthony Rizzo wants to rejoin New York Yankees

32-year-old Rizzo was traded from Chicago Cubs to Yankees during the trade deadline in 2021. Notably, his short outing with the Yankees has been rewarding. Since the first few games in July, he started making an impact in the team, hitting sensational home runs. Moreover, Rizzo became the first Yankees player of all time to get on base eight times.

Interestingly, Rizzo will hit the free agency in 2022, along with eight other Yankees players.

Albeit, a rumor has hinted that Anthony enjoyed his short yet fruitful time in Yankees, and would be interested in signing a new contract with them. It was revealed by Rizzo’s family member that he is eager to return to the Yankees in 2022.

Rizzo has batted 249 in 49 games for the Yankees. He had also blasted a home run in the AL Wild card game. There is a realistic chance Yankees would want to sign him back, courtesy of his performance.

However, there is a cream layer of first basemen hitting the free agency in 2022. Likes of Freddie Freeman and Brandon Belt would be in contention with Rizzo in free agency. Although, Freeman is still active and he will compete in the MLB World Series for Atlanta Braves.

Where else can Rizzo go?

The most obvious answer would be Chicago Cubs. The Cubs would be interested in bringing back their captain to the team, who was a prominent player during his long outing with them. While another option could be the team near his hometown, the Miami Marlins.
