While there were many rumors around New York Yankees aiming for Carlos Correa in free agency, the Yankees reached no such deal before the lockout. However, new reports state that the Yankees might now prioritize their future extension for Aaron Judge over their new relationship with star free agent Carlos Correa.

Carlos Correa is the top free agent on the market this off-season, and many teams eyeing him have increased his stakes. Hence, Correa is waiting for the best deal to arrive at his table, as he is not going anywhere below $300 million.
Aaron Judge over Carlos Correa for New York Yankees
After their dreams of reaching the 2021 post-season remained incomplete, the Yankees were expected to be aggressive in the post-season. According to the rumors, they were planning to hand out a deal above $300 million to Carlos Correa in December.
Notably, when another star shortstop, Corey Seager, received a $325 million deal, Correa’s whopping million dollar rumors looked all the more realistic. However, while he is definitely in for an expensive offer, MLB insider Buster Olney doesn’t think it is going to come from the Yankees.
Buster said, “I know the Yankees, while they need a shortstop, I think some of their focus has been on trying to save some of their financial ammunition for an Aaron Judge negotiation coming up.”

Undeniably, the Yankees would keep Aaron Judge as their priority as he is the face of the franchise. Albeit, the richest team in Major League is ”saving up”, seems absurd, as they have a net worth of $5 billion.

Carlos Correa is ‘comfortable’ waiting
According to Jon Heyman, the star shortstop is not affected by the sudden MLB lockout. In fact, Correa is expecting his price to increase once the lockout is lifted.
