After facing defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox, in 2021, the New York Yankees have decided to explore all their options for the 2022 season. Leaving no stone unturned, Yankees’ general manager has sent a message out to all free agents.

Yankees intend to spend big, in an effort to build a strong squad for the 2022 season. The biggest challenge for them, however, is the shortstop position.

New York Yankees General Managers’ big statement

Yankees General Manager since 1998, Brian Cashman has revealed some exciting news for the free agents. According to the MLB reporter Bryan Hoch, Cashman said, #Yankees remain “open for business” with all free agent and trade possibilities. Yanks already have offers out to some free agents.”

To strengthen their team in 2022, the Yankees specifically need an ace shortstop on their side. The top options for the team are former Houston Astros star, Carlos Correa, Los Angeles Dodgers’ Corey Seager, and Colorado Rockies’ Trevor Story.

Notably, they might also bag a center fielder and pitcher from the free agency. However, there were also rumors about Yankees being interested in fresh from World Series, Atlanta Braves star, Freddie Freeman.

If Cashman’s statement hints at anything, it is that the Yankees are going to touch on their every possibility before making a final decision.

Cashman has already contacted Carlos, Corey, and Trevor

The Yankees controversy around shortstop continues, as Cashman said he has contacted the top free agents- Carlos, Corey, and Trevor.

“We are definitely casting a wide net and having conversations. That means free agents, that means trades, that means looking at what we have internally. So, we’re going to have to come up with a better version than what we ended with. That’s the job,” Cashman said.

He further said, “We’re trying to assess really what our realistic options are, and so time will tell how that plays out, but I have talked to all of them, yes.”

It looks like the Yankees are going to take some time before choosing their favorite for the shortstop position. Who do you think is going to appear in the pinstripe for the 2022 season?
