Justin Verlander and Houston Astros contract details

Justin Verlander’s brother and MLB analyst, Ben Verlander, broke the news to the world on his Twitter account. Ben tweeted, “IT’S OFFICIAL. @justinverlander is signing with Houston Astros!”

It was Justin’s brother who also spilled beans on the new deal signed between Justin and the Astros. Houston Astros and Justin have signed a $25 million deal for one year, with a player option for the second year. This happened after Justin had declined Astros’ initial $18.4 million one-year qualifying offer.

Before this, Justin had a three-year contract worth $94 million with the Astros. Interestingly, this was the first time 38-year-old Justin entered the free agency (2021). Well, it did not last long for him, as he was on the radar of not only the Astros but the New York Yankees as well.

New York Yankees had offered Justin a $10 million deal, with a year extension option. However, it looks like Justin wants to continue his future with the Houston Astros. Notably, he has just played one game in the past two seasons for the Astros, so he would definitely look to make up for it.

A look back at Justin Verlander’s career

Justin Verlander officially started his professional baseball career back in 2005, with the Detroit Tigers. From 2005 to 2017, he played for the Tigers, clinching glories for them. In 2017, the ace pitcher was traded to the Houston Astros by the Tigers. Justin then excelled with the Astros and also won the world series along with them in the same year.
