Even after almost two months, Major League Baseball is still going through the work stoppage. And it is still uncertain when the lockout will be over and baseball activities will be resumed.

Because of the lockout, no team can trade or negotiate with any players, including free agents. There are still approx 141 free agents who are yet to join any team. And the teams are waiting for the lockout to end as soon as possible. So they can add or trade some players to make their side even stronger.

New York Mets are one of the MLB teams who are going through a rough patch. Their management is looking to rebuild the team with some bold changes in the squad. Just before the lockout, the Mets had signed free agent Max Scherzer to a three-year deal for a huge $130 million.

Before signing with the Mets, the 37-year-old pitcher was playing for the Washington Nationals.

New York Mets to trade Jeff McNeil, Dom Smith, and J.D. Davis

If reports are to be believed, then the Mets are also willing to let go of some of their current players. According to SNY, the Mets are looking to let go of these current players: Jeff McNeil, Dom Smith, and J.D. Davis.

Notably, all three of them had a disappointing 2021 season. And with the inclusion of Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar into the squad, it is possible that McNeil, Smith, and Davis will not get a lot of opportunities to play. That is why the Mets are keen to trade these players and move ahead with their rebuild plan.

The Mets hire Buck Showalter

Recently in December, the Mets also hired Buck Showalter as their new manager to replace Luis Rojas. Rojas parted ways with the Mets after losing the two consecutive seasons. The Mets have hired the former Baltimore Orioles manager under a three-year deal. With his experience of managing over 3,000 games across 20 seasons, the Mets will look to end their trophy drought with Buck Showalter on the board.
